The Story Behind It
Soko seeks to redefine the aesthetics of ethical fashion by creating modern accessories that appeal to the urban woman. Founders Gwendolyn Floyd, Catherine Mahugu and Ella Peinovich established Soko in Nairobi, Kenya, with the aim of shifting the perception of ethical fashion and promote conscious consumerism.
Soko collections are inspired by architecture and traditional tribal designs, creating a strong yet minimal aesthetic. Their artisans use locally sourced and eco-friendly materials whenever possible, such as recycled brass and reclaimed cow horn and bone.
Soko believes that for something to be beautiful, the system that created it must also be beautiful. Using new digital platforms and mobile technology, they are pioneering ethical fashion by aligning handmade talent from emerging markets with the international fashion consumer. Soko works with artisan entrepreneurs every day to build their businesses, improve production capacity and sustainably increase their income.
Very pleased to have discovered Ginger finch. All started with trying to find something brass related for my wife on our 21st wedding anniversary. Really like the individuality of the range and personal touch provided in the packaging.
I like buying independent small brands who stock ethically sourced goods. The split moon cuff looks beautiful - simple while elegant. Wife loves it ! Will be back for sure
