Australian Merino Blanket - Splash
$480.00
These knockout Australian Merino wool throw blankets by Melbourne's Curio Practice will grace your contemporary home for decades to come.
Launched in 2020 by textile designer Georgia Brunmayr, Curio Practice throw blankets have taken the design world by storm. The hefty weight and generous size of these blankets have to be felt to be believed. Each blanket is knitted from 2kg of superfine Australian Merino wool (21 microns) and comfortably covers a queen-size bed.
The extraordinary checkerboard pattern is nostalgic yet inherently modern. They look fabulous on a neutral couch or bed, or colour-blocked against other bright fabrics. Splash features cobalt blue and baby-blue checks.
Blanket edges are finished by hand. The Curio label affixed to each blanket is embroidered in Central Victoria from Australian cotton and attached by hand.
Curio Practice Merino wool blankets are investment pieces that will part of your family for generations.

The Story Behind it
Curio Practice is an evolving consideration of how the value of heirloom objects—like those kept in curio cabinets of times gone by — are not bound by time. Curio Practice looks past the expectation of heirlooms being too precious to use, collecting dust in their cabinets, forever admired but never enjoyed, offering instead an object of functional artistry.
Created in 2020 by Georgia Brunmayr, Curio is a practice in responsible knitting, partnering with ethical Australian factories using consciously selected Australian merino yarns. Curio Practice blankets are manufactured in Melbourne, Australia, from 100% Australian Merino wool.
I have been looking for a merino blanket for some time. Not the cheap and nasty kind, not the one with the satin finish.
No, I wanted a blanket that would be happily draped over the back of the couch, or in the backseat of the car, that would provide comfort, warmth and softness. Something that would ultimately be handed down to the next generation, full of stories of family being together.
It took me a while and it cost me what I expected, reflecting the quality of the farmer’s work all the way through to the quality of the stitching around the edge.
I must say I feel like I have found it with this blanket. It is softer than I expected, better finished than the pictures suggest and long after the price I paid is forgotten, I have found an heirloom to pass on to my kids and their kids.
Thanks to Peita and her team.
