Woven Ceramic Vase
$70.00
Woven Ceramic Vases are like nothing you've seen before. They appear to be woven from handspun wool but are made from porcelain.
Canberra Ceramicist Julie Pennington painstakingly builds the woven vases from twisted coils of porcelain. Her work is heavily influenced by textiles and her unique style gives a visual softness not often found in ceramics.
The Woven Vases come in two forms - Beehive and Chimney - but they also look exquisite grouped together.
The Woven Vases are not watertight and are only suitable for dried flowers.

The Story Behind It
Julie Pennington's hand-built vessels and sculptural works are characterised by her distinctive and innovative approach to the enduring technique of coil building. Julie utilises the medium of porcelain, working slowly and methodically to investigate the subtleties and complexities of pattern and texture. The textural qualities of the coils are not dissimilar to thread or yarn giving a sense of softness to the otherwise hard clay surface. Much of the inspiration behind Julie's work stems from her observation and reflection on the natural environment, as well as textiles and basketry.
Julie's career in the visual arts began in the field of textile design, before pursuing her interest in ceramics and completing a Diploma of Ceramics in 2010. Julie has exhibited nationally and internationally and has been an award winner and a finalist in a number of competitions. She has also undertaken Residencies in Australia and Spain.
