These two designers look grumpy, but they are the seriously funny, brilliant minds behind new furniture brand, Furnished Forever.
René Linssen and Elliot Bastianon established Furnished Forever in 2017. Defined by clean lines, crisp geometry and a restricted colour palette, Furnished Forever is taking the design world by storm. We're so thrilled to stock their products - and to support such a great brand from our hometown, Canberra!
The fabulous Two Stance Bench in green - a Gingerfinch favourite!
René and Elliot's unique combination of skills is the secret sauce to this chic new brand. Elliot's expertise is in hand skills and material exploration, while René's industrial design background brings a focus on production and commercial viability. These complementing skills have coalesced in a collection of furniture that floats between commercial application and crafted detailing.
René and Elliot are all about Australian manufacturing. Furnished Forever products are designed and fabricated in the ACT and Southern NSW region, ensuring every piece meets their exacting high standards - and supporting the local industry.
We sat down with the boys to find out a bit more about what makes them tick.
How do you like to spend your downtime?
Rene: I’m an introvert so I like to spend my downtime watching Netflix and being a couch potato.
Elliot: Trying to not think about work (I like what I do but, you know...) and just pottering around the apartment.
What’s the favourite part of your home and why?
Rene: Favourite part of my home is the lounge room, it’s the place I can go to unwind and relax. I feel most at home and comfortable there.
Elliot: Bed in the morning and bed in the evening.
The Low Stance Stool has been a hit is some of Australia's best cafes and restaurants.
What are 3 things you do to leave the earth in a better state than when you arrived?
1. I bring my own bags when I go shopping.
2. I bring my own coffee cup to cafes (huskee cup FTW).
3. I don’t have a lot of stuff, I prefer quality over quantity. Having less stuff but better stuff.
Elliot: Research more ecological ways of doing things, think about where products come from and how they're made (cheap often means people or the planet were exploited) and use less plastic!
And they've been featured in incredible homes!
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Rene: Believe in yourself (sounds cheesy I know) and be yourself. Also don’t be discouraged by failure. If you have a passion or dream then chase it no matter how scary it may seem.
The only way to grow is to do things that make you feel uncomfortable. Be yourself, it's important to know what makes you tick and to do things your own way. This is what will make you stand out from others. Also be prepared to fail- its okay because you learn every time you fail and you get better at what you do.
Elliot: Everything Rene would say to his younger self is what I would say, too. I'd also add travel more.
What is your superpower?
Rene: Not sure whether it’s a blessing or a curse but I’d say once I get into something I really get into and want to be the best at that thing. I also get obsessed over the details of things. I wish my super power was flying though....
Elliot: I know how to clean things really well.
